About Converse College

Converse College is a liberal arts women's college located in Spartanburg, which is the largest city and the county seat of Saprtanburg County, situated in the US state of South Carolina, having a population estimated at a number of nearly 250 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census, fact which also makes it the 2nd largest city of the 3 primary cities in the Upstate region of the state.

Converse College was established in 1889, and it was opened in October, 1890, with an initial enrollment of only 168 students and a faculty of 16 members. Today, the college has an enrollment of approximately 2000 students, to whom it offers various educational programs in areas of study such as arts and design, chemistry, music, education and many other.

Athletics

Converse's athletic teams are known as the Valkyries and they compete in Conference Carolinas. Their distinctive colors are purple and gold.
